Spectacular Scenery Awaits Visitors
In the heart of the northern Sierra Nevada mountain chain, neighboring Sierra County is unspoiled and uncrowded. Scenic highways take you to old mining camps, cattle ranches, spring wild flowers, snowy peaks, fall colors, waterfalls and historic sites.

The area's forests, lakes, streams and rivers provide the setting for a multitude of outdoor activities including camping, horseback riding and packing, hiking and backpacking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, gold panning, swimming, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

Sierra County is comprised of two quite different regions. On the west side, it is mountainous and heavily forested. The eastern side is dominated by a valley at 5,000 feet said to have been an ancient lake bed. It is one of the largest valleys in the Sierra Nevada.
